Diego has a thought
"One of Auguste Rodin's most famous sculptures is The Thinker Statue, a piece originally conceived to be part of another work. The Thinker was part of a commission by the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris to sculpt a monumental door based on The Divine Comedy of Dante. Each of the statues in the piece represented one of the main characters in the epic poem."

Wired News: Jacket Grows From Living Tissue
From Boingboing.net, but I found this quote even more amazing:
Wired News: Jacket Grows From Living Tissue:
"'The interesting thing about cell lines is that in most cases once a cell line has been developed there is much more of that than the original organism from which it was taken,' said Catts. 'For example, the 3T3 mouse cells which are very common in scientific research centers around the globe can be weighed in tons or even tens of tons and they all came from one mouse in the 1970s.'"

Maize maze craze - MSNBC link
Images of President Bush, top, and Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, make up a corn maze Sept. 20, 2004, in Pleasant Grove, Utah
Dean Sherman, a Manchester, Iowa, pumpkin-grower, created a three-acre maze designed as a winding vine around a jack-o'-lantern. “I saw on the Internet you could hire a company to make a maze for you for $2,000 to $5,000. We did it ourselves and have maybe $100 in it, Sherman told The Gazette of Cedar Rapids. He spent three days laying out the design and carving it when the corn was a foot tall, using a weed trimmer.
But farmers might invest as much as $25,000 to $100,000 if they have their mazes professionally designed and cut, then spend money on marketing and staffing, MAiZE spokeswoman Kamille Combs told The Gazette. The investment could turn unprofitable if bad weather keeps customers away, but farmers who build the mazes have high expectations.

This car runs on air
The only exhaust is cold air..can we hook it up to my a/c unit?
"In both cars, an electric pump compresses air into the tank at a pressure of 300 bars.
The pump plugs straight into an ordinary household socket and takes four hours to complete the recharge.
Mr Braud said: 'When you get home, you normally plug in your cell phone. Well, now you do that with your car, too.'
Inside the Air Car - the brainchild of former Formula One engine designer Guy Negre - escaping compressed air is used to pump pistons that take the vehicle up to 110kmh.
The car can travel 80km at top speed on a full tank, or further at lower speeds.
The only exhaust that comes out of the tail pipe is cold air."

Austin Powers random connections
How deep does the parody in Austin Powers go? We all know it as wild spoof of the swinging 60's baby and a wild spoof of the Bond genre, but who among the under-30 crowd really gets the level of parody of even the 60's Bond knock-off movies? I point to the SPACE single on the Austin Powers soundtrack: The Female of the Species with the great chorus:
"The female of the species is more deadly than the male"
<-- Any wagers on the inspiration for that classic Fembot song?
