PrintMe internet printing..can anyone do it..to anyone?

So I found this site about internet printing called PrintMe. Apparently, if you have your printer set up on the internet with PrintMe, you can send documents directly to it and then walk up to the printer later and just enter the code it gives you to print that particular document. I was browsing printers when it gave me this option:

http://www.printme.com/206850

If someone goes to this printer and types in the code 304711 he/she should get a printout of a picture of an F-4 Corsair I took at an airshow earlier this year. I wonder if I really sent a document to this printer. If I did, what's to stop someone from overloading it with huge files or porn?

Check it out.

Christopher Swain

This is some serious dedication:

While other people bike, ride and run for causes they care about, Swain has
already swum down the Hudson River (315 miles), across Lake Champlain (129
miles) and through all 1,200 miles of the Columbia River, which rises in British
Columbia and spills into the Pacific Ocean on the coast of Washington.
Because of the polluted waterways, Swain is risking his health to further
his cause.

"The most contaminated piece of land for instance in the entire Western Hemisphere is the Hanford Nuclear Reservation in southeastern Washington," Swain said. "The Columbia River flows right through it, and I swam right through there, not because I'm totally insane, but because I wanted to say, 'We should do something here.' I had seven ear infections, four bad respiratory infections. Three different times I had infections in my lymph system, lymph nodes that swelled up to golf ball size."

To prevent parasites and bacteria from making him sick, he takes a break every 600 strokes — he actually keeps count — to gargle with hydrogen peroxide.

Bank bounce check fees

Maybe it has been asked before on the internet :), but wht's the deal with bank overdraft fees? My bank told me in no uncertain terms that it is ILLEGAL to bounce a check, i.e. to write a check for which you do not have sufficient funds to honor. If this is the case, what is the legal precedent for the $25 fee imposed by the bank which can trigger a cascade of fees as other checks may or may hit my account during the shakeup?

Example #1:
Balance: $300

Check #1: $301
Result: BOUNCE ($25)
Balance: $275

Check #2: $276
Result: BOUNCE ($25)
Balance: $251 + ($576) debt

Net result: ($325)

OR

Example #2:
Balance: $301

Check #1: $276
Result: Paid ($276)
Balance: $24

Check #2: $301
Result: BOUNCE ($25)
Balance: ($1) + ($300) debt (provide the fee doesn't trigger another round of fees)

Net result: ($301)

What gives the bank the right to fine me privately when I have broken a federal or state law? I have not bounced a check in a few years and I have overdraft protection now, which is free, but this issue has always been nagging at me. If someone comes and burglarizes my home and I catch them, can I just fine them, say $6000, and then let them go?

Wife Swap 101

Amy's Robot: "There are some important parenting lessons to be learned from the show. If you are too rigid and structured and never let your kids do anything without getting your permission first, they will completely freak out when given the freedom to manage their own behavior. Witness Melissa's kids stuffing greedy handfuls of M&M's into their faces when Cindy gives them a big bowl of candy, and watching as many as possible of the 100 channels of TV they are suddenly allowed to watch. These are the kids who drown in their own vomit during the first semester of college after doing 38 tequila shots. Conversely, if you don't have any household rules at all and let your kids do absolutely anything they want, they will not develop beyond the maturity of a 3 year-old and have a hissyfit when you tell them they have to clean the bathroom."

"One of Auguste Rodin's most famous sculptures is The Thinker Statue, a piece originally conceived to be part of another work. The Thinker was part of a commission by the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris to sculpt a monumental door based on The Divine Comedy of Dante. Each of the statues in the piece represented one of the main characters in the epic poem."

From Boingboing.net, but I found this quote even more amazing:

Wired News: Jacket Grows From Living Tissue:
"'The interesting thing about cell lines is that in most cases once a cell line has been developed there is much more of that than the original organism from which it was taken,' said Catts. 'For example, the 3T3 mouse cells which are very common in scientific research centers around the globe can be weighed in tons or even tens of tons and they all came from one mouse in the 1970s.'"

Maize maze craze - MSNBC link

Images of President Bush, top, and Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, make up a corn maze Sept. 20, 2004, in Pleasant Grove, Utah

Dean Sherman, a Manchester, Iowa, pumpkin-grower, created a three-acre maze designed as a winding vine around a jack-o'-lantern. “I saw on the Internet you could hire a company to make a maze for you for $2,000 to $5,000. We did it ourselves and have maybe $100 in it, Sherman told The Gazette of Cedar Rapids. He spent three days laying out the design and carving it when the corn was a foot tall, using a weed trimmer.

But farmers might invest as much as $25,000 to $100,000 if they have their mazes professionally designed and cut, then spend money on marketing and staffing, MAiZE spokeswoman Kamille Combs told The Gazette. The investment could turn unprofitable if bad weather keeps customers away, but farmers who build the mazes have high expectations.

This car runs on air

The only exhaust is cold air..can we hook it up to my a/c unit?

"In both cars, an electric pump compresses air into the tank at a pressure of 300 bars.

The pump plugs straight into an ordinary household socket and takes four hours to complete the recharge.

Mr Braud said: 'When you get home, you normally plug in your cell phone. Well, now you do that with your car, too.'

Inside the Air Car - the brainchild of former Formula One engine designer Guy Negre - escaping compressed air is used to pump pistons that take the vehicle up to 110kmh.

The car can travel 80km at top speed on a full tank, or further at lower speeds.

The only exhaust that comes out of the tail pipe is cold air."

Austin Powers random connections

How deep does the parody in Austin Powers go? We all know it as wild spoof of the swinging 60's baby and a wild spoof of the Bond genre, but who among the under-30 crowd really gets the level of parody of even the 60's Bond knock-off movies? I point to the SPACE single on the Austin Powers soundtrack: The Female of the Species with the great chorus:

"The female of the species is more deadly than the male"

<-- Any wagers on the inspiration for that classic Fembot song?

Hey, you got religion in my peanut butt..er, movie

Dear Christianty-

Please claim every popular movie as a symbol of religion and use each as a tool for preaching conservative, self-righteousness around the world.

Sincerely-
The Pagan Herd that is society

Finally, a study guide to explain the biblical imagery in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. While viewing the epic battle of good vs. evil lucky readers can dig into chapters like:

—The Struggle for Virtue(Romans 6:15-7:25; Philippians 2:1-3; 4:2-9)

—Resisting Power and Sin(Genesis 3:5; Matthew 4:1-11; Mark 1:11-12; Luke 4:1-13; 2 Corinthians 10:3-5)

Religion is everywhere and if some people had their way it would be the only thing, anywhere, but efforts like this remind me how pathetic, and yet resourceful, the fanatically faithful can be. An article or review can present an opinion, but crafting a document and calling it a study guide makes assumptions about the artists' original visions and twists them to meet an agenda. I suppose it gives someone, somewhere, something to do. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy is no more about God as it is about New York City hot dog vendors.

Now there's a study guide: The Lord of the Rings Trilogy as it relates to the NYC Hot Dog Vendor manifesto.

Spaceballs vs. It Happened One Night

You ever have one of those moments when you're watching a late night old movie and suddenly a little light comes on in your head and you realize that something you saw 15 years before in a comedy turns out to be the over the top parody you're embarrassed you never got it in the first place. So I'm watching It Happened One Night, best picture 1934, and I'm thinking "I've seen this ending somewhere before." Nothing like finding parody by seeing the original last.
VS
Thank you Mel Brooks and Spaceballs. Clark Gable turns down the $10,000 reward and takes only $39.60 for his trouble to buy gas money. Lonestar turns down Dick Van Patten's (King Roland) reward at the end and only asks for money for gas & tolls. How the hell I made this connection I have no idea. I never picked up the parody through dozens of Spaceballs viewings, but seriously, how many 17 year-olds had seen It Happened One Night in 1987...how about now?

Now let's get crazy with google:
1. Daphne Zuniga starred in Spaceballs as Princess Vespa and also, from imdb.com:
"Spin City" (1996) playing "Carrie" in episode: "It Happened One Night" (episode # 3.5) 20 October 1998

2. Both movies are listed on this comedy page

3. Even this reviewer of Anastasia is light years ahead of me:
"The story isn't bad, either. I understand it's something of a remake of an old, live-action Anastasia movie. (Which didn't stop them from lifting the ending device--the same one parodied in Spaceballs--from It Happened One Night.) In fact, outside of the evil-sorceror subplot, which feels tacked-on at times, there seems little reason to have used animation for Anastasia."

4. More Daphne Zuniga. What? Read on about The Sure Thing:
"A kind of modern take on Capra's "It Happened One Night," Rob Reiner's second movie has charming underachiever John Cusack sharing a cross-country ride with prim, pretty Daphne Zuniga. She's heading out to see her tea-drinking preppie fiancé and he, to a "sure thing" -- a night of sex -- set up by his pal Anthony Edwards. Of course, love conquers all."
Site 1
Site 2

5. Apparently this is common knowledge. Even snikrdoodle knew.

6. This site lists One Flew Over the Cuckoo's nest as the first film to sweep the big 5 Academy Awards since It Happened One Night in 1934. Inexplicably, listed below Spaceballs. These films are linked everywhere.

M-1 Abrams tank nicknames

U.S. tank crews (aka TREAD HEADS) in the Middle East have taken to naming their vehicles in the field with stencils and spray paint. There's not much on the internet detailing the best names, but here is a small article outlining the grass roots morale movement. A dead link from last year showed a long row of M-1 Abrams tanks, each with a name painted on the barrel. My favorite? The term for acquiring a target's range and potential firepower needed for its destruction: BALLISTIC SOLUTION.

"Each side of the main gun tube is stenciled with white letters over a black background; cutout photos of a Saddam Hussein doll dressed in drag are pasted next to the name.

Naming the tanks is a heated process. The tank crews offer up their suggestions; the tank commander can veto the crew; and the higher company leadership has final say over whether the names are too offensive to grace a multimillion-dollar piece of military hardware."

Name this tank
